Robert Englund as Freddy Krueger of A Nightmare on Elm Street in 1989

American horror film director Wes Craven, creator of the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise, has died aged 76.
US media reported that Craven died at his Los Angeles home on Sunday from brain cancer.
Craven wrote and directed A Nightmare on Elm Street in 1984. His Scream franchise was reported to have grossed more than $100m (£65m) in the US.
He wrote, directed and edited his first film, The Last House on the Left, in 1972.
A tweet from his Twitter account featured a picture of him with the dates 1939-2015.
Craven was credited with reinventing the teen horror genre when the first film featuring Freddy Krueger was released in 1984 starring a then-unknown Johnny Depp.

New Year

Hope you had a good holiday everyone.  I can see that several of you have made significant progress on your blogs over the summer, however there are some that have not posted anything.  I will expect all blogs to be updated by the time we get back to our first film lesson.  I will be commenting on your blogs over the next week to give you some ideas.

Dont forget to keep a record of all the sources you have used on a word document this will become your catalogue (Try to use Harvard referencing system details on Library moodle and examples in your A2 SSRP booklet and Moodle)

You need to have watched all your focus films and have made detailed notes on specific scenes that you will use for your presentation which support your research title.  If you have not already done so can you alter the header of your blog making sure that it includes the title of your research, making it easier to understand what your looking at.  You can do this from the layout tab.

I have not yet got a copy of the exam breakdowns.  We will chat about that when we see each other in a couple of weeks.  I can guess there are some of you that are a little dissapointed dont be as you have this year to get that grade up, see it as a lesson learnt and you should be able to see where you stumbled importantly dont panic.

Long Good Friday

Helen Mirren and Bob Hoskins in The Long Good Friday.

This is one of the best British Gangster films you will see.  Watch this short video from the Guardian and its on TV.  The Long Good Friday, the British gangster classic starring Bob Hoskins as London kingpin Harold Shand, is getting re-released in UK cinemas this week. Peter Bradshaw explains why John Mackenzie's film, which also featured a young Helen Mirren as Harold's girlfriend, is worth a butchers this week
