Presentation Scripts

So you now all have your alloted time for your presentation.  Prior to giving it it is vital that I see a draft of your script.  Once you have presented then you will have the oppertunity to make alterations to it before the final hand in.  The important thing is to follow your instructions to the letter and look at the exemplar material.

What you need to do for next weeks lessons

I will collect in a draft of your catalogue next week.  It is vital that you follow the conventions in the yellow book.  I do not want to waste any time running through what you need to do.

What to do next on your Research Project

So what do you need to do next ?

Start to construct your catalog as a word document however it is vital that you follow the correct referencing proceedure (see the leaflet that I gave you last lesson

Ensure that you have lots of notes so you can start constructing your presentation script (you need to refer to specific scenes so timecode is vital) 

Select clips to use in your presentation no more than 3 max 2min long Reading around the subject from a variety of sources (not just internet)

Start a cuttings folder including the reviews for your films as you will need to use them in your presentation Trailers/ clips need to be on your blog with some analysis

lastly if you have not done it put your research question in the header of your blog

Summer Update

I hope you are all having a good summer and have seen some good films. Dont forget that the week we get back you will be filling in your proposals for the external examiner so it is vital that you have completed some initial research (yes this also includes books) Those of you looking at reboots and superheros need to get the new edition of empire as above very good.

Some of you still have not handed in your proposals. I therefore assume you will not be continuing with film next year !

So what needs to go on the blog?
Trailers or clips of each of your films accompanied by some discussion of how each clip relates to your research. Start to compile your sources ready to start the catalogue. Remember you have to get in the library and research yourself.

Gather reviews of all of your chosen films from Sight and Sound (vital)
Watch the films very closely make notes watch the directors commentary. I expect to see evidence of detailed textual analysis as part of your research especially if you are comparing texts over time.

Found a great new site called Film Releases.com which has a lot of background on each of the films worth a look link .............here

You should now be posting what you have been reading on your blog this will for the basis of your catalogue. Even if you have not yet decided on your films start compiling a list any text you find may be useful or it will be useful for the Material Selected but not used ssection at the end of your catalogue.

When deciding on the usefulness of your films ensure that you look at the extras there is often some good stuff included.

This is not an essay so try and avoid long passages of text I want to see what you are looking at and reading so embed some clips and references.

Can you get your proposal back to me before next friday 8th July.

Make sure you are checking your mail and if anyone has a one of our films then please return it.

Research

So everyone has now got a blog. Please make sure you use it and of course keep an eye on my blog. Remember that your research question needs to be open enough to enable research but focused enough to be valuable and to allow a detailed investigation.
Make sure you read the exemplar material in the booklet do not try and do all of this work online you really need to get into the Library and start reading.

I would like you to submit your research question by week beginning Monday 4 July I want the question with your Focus Film specified and then your supporting two or three films. I will give out the paperwork for this next week.

This is where all the information and notices concerning this year will be. We are looking at setting up a Facebook Group linked to the Colleges main Facebook page so watch this space.

Make sure you have a look at thei site Film Studies for free an excellent site and a good video of George A Romero on there at the moment.

Start thinking about what you may want to research remember to think about how much information is out there on your chosen subject, obscurity is good but make sure there is some written research around the area that you can use.

You should sign up for the Empire newsletter you can find the link on the right of the screen there are loads of links on the right it is vital that you use them, make sure you check out Film Studies for free.
